SITE-The Cloisters

This site,I'm thinking about, is The Cloisters museum in Fort Tron Park of Manhattan, NY.

When I first visit this place, it makes me feel like in a seperated time and space from city.

like a 'cabinet' of NY. (actually The Cloister is a museum about the art and architecture of Medieval Europe. anyway...)

Site

Port Jefferson, a historic seaport in Long Island along the far end of the harbor. I've decided that it would be more of a challenge to do this rather than a terminal for planes and railroads. I might as well look into waves along with my birds :)

These are images from w hotel in seoul


First one is wood mirror. It is interactive media work. It changes it's angle by reconoging people's movement. After I saw your pictures of your diagram's shade, I remembered this wood mirror.





Second picture is also w hotel restaurant named "namu" which means tree in korean as you know :) I think this wood objenct is simiar with your concept.

The Highline

Ha Jung,

When thinking about the natural vs. artificial, you might consider a good example in the Highline. Diller + Scofidio is re-imagining this old elevated railway that runs on the West side of Manhattan as a natural park for people to enjoy. In the first picture you can see how the Highline looks now. The second is a rendering of what it will look like. There is a lot more to the Highline, you should go to their site http://www.thehighline.org/

Ethical Architecture

I have been thinking a lot about what the architect's purpose and responsibility is. The first answer might be to stay within budget, fulfill the client's needs or create great buildings. But I think that there are more imperitive answers to this question, such as: am I respecting the environment and creating a space that works with the landscape, the ecology by being cognizant of sustainability of materials, local geography, etc. Another imperitive might be: am I meeting the needs of all people and not just those who can afford to benefit from great design.
So I keep Buckminster Fuller, William McDonough, and Bruce Mau in mind when I design. And I recently learned about Architecture for Humanity, Archeworks and Stanley Tigerman , who sums up my position by saying, “Designing houses for the rich—that’s not interesting. It’s greater payback to work for those who need me than for those who want me,” Tigerman says. “When you design something beautiful, people appreciate it. Beauty isn’t just the reserve for the rich.”

I am so sorry, I am late.

But believe or not, I hve been tried couple times. This would be my last try.

It was amazing to see differences in same object. So I will focus my concept to Illusion and simplicity.

I have questions.

First, If this site and project goes to the nest semester( I mean my thesis) I need more time to decide.

Second, one of my thought about the project is the club house in golf country club. But someone advised me

It is impossible to complete it. Because I have to show a lot, like lobby w/ reception area and waiting area,

bar, restaurant, even sauna... It looks like almost hotel without rooms.

Anyhow I will gether any information of this class.

Driving Forces

I am interested in using slits/cuts, openings and overlapping planes in the design of my hotel. I am also interested in light and shadow. I hope to have a lot of contrast in my final design.
I will focus on the simplicity and inherent beauty of nature (light, materials, pattern, air & movement, water, fire, symmetry, repetition, the golden mean, etc.) to dictate the project. This is an example of an image that speaks to me in a powerful way. I will post others.

My program is about food. It will contains a gourmet shop, a cooking studio, and a restaurant etc.

So I drew new diagram which concerned about my new subject. However, I still struggle about it and I want to develop it.

I'm interested in overlapping layer and I am finding images about it.

My next post will be about overlapping.

clock wheel

I'm interested in moving architectual. I want to do somthing related to it.

In side the clock there are many wheels are related each other and they make time. I think it is similar with culture. Many diffrent culture are influence each other and related each other and than creating new culture.

Youth hostel can be the place where the diffrent culture is mixing. Also it can be emphasised if new programed function is added such as performing place and exhibition place.

i was trying to make a concept diagram.
i got back to get a definition of a diagram.

oldman and Starbucks

my program is about elderly people facility.Inevitably, the elderly needs many cares, but they need to care something, like their company, for just themselves.while im thinking about the elderly, i came to this keyword."care"i divide it up, i got two kinds of "being cared" and "care"i think that "being care" is related to the elderly's status-who they are-"care" is related to thier kind of ideal goal - what are they supposed to do -but this is not the end of story. i dont think that they need to get a just care.i also add up one more critical issue which is the quality of care.


This sketch is showing my rough idea.yeah, it's an oldman with a medical care system. but in the end of the hose, there is a Cup of Starbucks coffee.i want to convey my idea "the quality of care" with this sketch.i thought that the old man is being cared. however that's not just a care. As you know, the Starbucks is famous for an emotional marketing. i think they raised up quality of coffee. they made people take a cup of coffee not only as a just a coffee but also as an emotional treatment.

Being John Malkovich (1999)

My program is youth hostel and when I was watching several movies I couldn't get into the youth hostel. There were lots of movies related to hotel but I couldn't feel any connection with my theme of youth hostel. My English is not enough to read many books in short time so I 'd rather watch movies but even I watched 7-8 movies only for this class but only focusing on movie with is related to youth hostel program is not possible.

So I was stucked.

Now I change my point of choosing movies a liitle bit.

I choose the movie "Being John Malkovich"

'A puppeteer discovers a hidden doorway in his office, which turns out to be a portal into John Malkovitch (the famous actor)'s mind. Upon entering the portal, one gets to be inside Malkovitch's mind for 15 odd minutes. As with any great discovery of this century, the ultimate question immediately arises : 'How can we make money out of this?' He and his co-worker promptly set out to exploit this discovery. It doesn't take long for things to go haywire'

His office was in a 7 and 1/2 floor and inside an office there was a hidden door.

I'm interested in strange level of the office and people's curiosity of experiencing other people's life. I want to use these thing in to my youth hostel.
